چکیده

The trabecular meshwork and scleral spur of two young human eyes were studied by light and electron microscopy in Epon-embedded material. Anteroposterior sections showed, in light microscopy, numerous dots stained dark purple with Weigert's elastic stain and greenish with Giemsa in both regions. In tilted frontal sections, similarly stained, long, circularly oriented fibers toere observed, indicating that they were longitudinal sections of the dots observed in the anteroposterior section. This material appears to be the saine lohich has been described as elastic tissues when observed by conventional methods. With alternate thin and thick sections, the fine structure of the above material is described. It consists basically of a peripheral cortex and a central core. The distribution of these structures in the trabecular meshwork and scleral spur is described, and their nature discussed, and compared with elastic tissues of the aorta of the guinea pig.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was the evaluation of cycloplegic effect of homatropine 2% on central corneal curvature and power. 43 volunteers who participated in the study were examined. Thirty-nine of them (28 men and 11 women) which had normal eyes with visual acuity of 20/20 and a mean age of 29.6 ± 6.7 years were selected. Then corneal topography was performed on both eyes. After per...

To Estimate the Axial Elastic Modulus of Eye and Posterior Wall Thickness in Healthy Human Eye by Ultrasound Images and their Relation with Age and Gender

Introduction: Based on the invasive studies it has been shown that factors such as age, the progress of eye disorders, lens fibers compression and the biochemical changes of ocular matrix alter the physical characteristics and elastic properties of eye. In this study, a noninvasive method of estimating human eye elasticityis proposed and its relation with age and gender is evaluated using ultra...

Effects of pilocarpine on the morphology of the human outflow apparatus.

The morphology of the outflow apparatus in human eyes which had been treated topically with either 2 or 4% pilocarpine on 4 occasions at 6-hourly intervals before enucleation was compared with an untreated control series of eyes from patients in a similar age range. In the pilocarpine-treated group the scleral spur was pulled posteriorly and internally, so that the angle formed by the scleral s...

Histological study of the annular ligament in the rabbitfish eye (Siganus sp.)

Rabbitfish is economically valuable teleost species which lives in shallow coastal waters. Two species of rabbit fish have been recognized in southern sea of Iran (Persian gulf) as namely Siganus sutor and Siganus javus. In the current study, in order to investigate the histology of the annular ligament of the S. javus’ eye, the prepared sections of the eyes of twelve healthy specimens were stu...

Human scleral elastic system: an immunoelectron microscopic study.

An immunocytochemical study was conducted on elastic components in the sclera of seven aged human eyes. By conventional electron microscopy, elastic tissue consists of three distinct fibre types--elastic fibres, elaunin fibres, and oxytalan fibres. The distribution of six components associated with the elastic system (elastin, amyloid P component, laminin, fibronectin, gp 115, and vitronectin) ...
